General Biographical Description: | Gayle Riedmann graduated from University of California SanFrancisco/University of California-San Diego Nurse-Midwifery program in 1986. She is Chair of the Illinois Birth Center Task Force, a grassroots legislative effort to establish freestanding birth centers in Illinois that passed the Illinois legislature in 2007. She is on the Board of Health and Medicine Policy Research Group, an independent, freestanding, non-profit center that formulates health policy, advocacy and health systems to enhance the health of the public.
She is co-owner of West Suburban Midwife Associates, Ltd, of one of the few private Midwifery-owned businesses in the greater Chicago area. She started the Alternative Birth Center and Waterbirth program at West Suburban Hospital in 1999.
She is preceptor for community based midwifery educational programs and published in peer-reviewed journals. She has been honored by her colleagues by being awarded the ACNM Foundation Leadership Award in 2004, the ACNM Joyce Roberts Award for Excellence in Midwifery in 2006, and the ISAPN Marie Lindsey Spirit of Advanced Practice Nurses Award in 2007.
