A rapid reference

Myoglobin

Myoglobin is a protein found in skeletal and cardiac muscle.

Injury to striated muscle will cause a release of myoglobin into the blood, elevating the myoglobin levels. Injuries may include:

  • Traumatic injury (crush, blast)
  • Excessive exercise
  • Siezures
  • Electrocution
  • Malayan Sea Snake bite
  • Myocardial infarction

Normal Values*

Myoglobin 30-90 ng/ml 30-90 ug/L
